Older ascend 12t blows the fuse when i hook up a bettery, with no accessories. What could be the cause?

I bought a used ascend 12t kayak with the factory installed yak power system. I attempted to hook up a battery to the system but it would pop the fuse every time. I never even hooked up an accessory to it. What could cause thus? Bad control module?
